Hi there Steve!

here are the better pics of the TPS I photoed badly above ..
just 2 bolts to remove so easy to get really

p/n is AUDI/VW {044 987 385 A} and looks just like this one ...

Is it a stock 964 TPS?
I ask as I'm taking your advice to ...
put the motronic back (ie remove the cheap FuelMgmt)
along with AFM and all other bits (that why the current question) that might have been removed

and then ask Chip Meister Steve Wong for a chip for my 3.8/decatted/95 octane/LWFW 964
which hopefully will reinstate its road manners while maintaining its oooOOOOMMFFF ;)

Can you help in the quest to find out what I'm actually missing?

That TPS doesn't look like the factory 964 item; it may be a VAG part.

I'm happy to source anything you need, however its challenging to do an 'inventory' of what you need from here. :) :)

Well VAG or not it seems I got lucky today. Wired up the TPS - there were four wires cut off in the loom - and immediately the 2k idle disappeared and the 880 returned. Had to wind the idle screw out 2 threads - was on 0 - and this cut the stalling out almost completely .. Now I just need the vacuum bauble thingy - sorry! - and the AFM, although I was surprised to see how we'll engine worked w/o the AFM. Thanks for the helping hand Steve - will update once chip in.

Hey Steve

just a bit of feedback to round out the thread ...

I worked out the VAG TPS wasn't wired into my motronic loom at all
(decided to re-wind the insultation and found 4 wires tucked up inside in the right spot)
so I took them and connected them up ...
and immediately the RPM dropped from 1.8-2.2k back to 900 range.
What a relief! And so much smoother/quieter in traffic.

It still feels like it might just stall, so I turned the idle screw out a couple turns
which seems to have helped (tho I've read it shouldn't/doesn't)
ie no stall today on a long breakfast run with lots of variety
although cold start is a tiny bit sketchy (needs a little throttle once engine takes).
But "road manners" as you say are def better!

Going to remove the aftermkt fuel mgmt systems, refit the AFM
and then ask Steve Wong for a chip to suit my 964 which is:
312HP - 3.8 (993 RS Cams) - LWFW/LSD - 95 octane - sea level (?) - no aircon car
... but that's for my next thread ;)

cheers for the advice and time on the phone!

Matt
