temp sensor on 964

i understand the outside temp sensor is in the driver mirror - found it.
question is: is this for climate control in conjunction with the interior thermostat to set HVAC temps;
or is it merely to know what the ambient air temperature is outside [ if so i do not have that option]?

AFAIK that mirror based sensor is for the OBC Tach only. A while ago I installed the OBC tach, and I ran lines out to the door mirrors to new sensors I installed there. There were no other connections that went beyond the tach... Also my car's systems all functioned fine without one, so I assume they're separate systems.

That makes sense - this car does not have the OBC option.
My HVAC synchros have minds of their own!
Somedays it all works like charm; other days it decides for me if i am hot or cold!
Fortunately for me, i just got the whole assembly plus blower motors as you did from friend Kai.
Thanks Tom- I'm sure we'll compare some notes.
