964 rod length

Postby rkeele » Tue Jul 05, 2016 10:34 am

I recently ran across sets of Carrillo and Pauter rods that are maybe 2mm longer than stock, is this something that can be used with Mahle 3.8 11.3 pistons? and why are they made? wouldn't you need to shim the cyl. base? I was told makes more power because changes rod dwell angle? well ok is this something just for Turbo? :? thanks Bob

thanks Steve kept me from making a stupid mistake  interesting though, going with NEW stock length Pauter or Carrillo, I already have ARP bolts in the stock rods probably fine :) but this is a race car and after loosing a piston and cyl. in April at the AAA super speedway PCA speed festival, and due to short gears runs half the oval at 7000 rpm so I decided might be cheap Insurance to go with better rods :) Bob

thanks I understand about the crank not being fully counter weighted, crank is being redone, had 1 rod journal under spec. the one that the piston failed on that is being brought back to std. Alan Faraghala at Aase motors recommended a clearance grind, instead of cross drill and or groove to keep oil around the bearings, not sure what you mean about center bearing mod have not heard about that one, wish I could have used a GT3 crank one was avail. for $2500 but with everything else out of my budget range. Not that redoing my crank is cheap but $945. shop price. The motor was raced in Arizona with NASA
and here with PCA for the most part everything came out looking good no main bearing excessive wear or leaking fr. & rear seals, going 3.8 though so want to do it right. Bob
