OBD 1

Postby ALEX P » Mon Apr 15, 2013 6:39 am

Hi,

I have a 1985 3.2 chassis with a 964 engine so wasn't sure which section to ask this question but seemed more relevant to 964.

I've got a spare OBD 1 connector that I was thinking of integrating into my loom (if it's possible) so I guess what I'm trying to find out is:

I know the OBD connector/port is in the footwell on the 964 but where does the OBD 1 actually interface with the car i.e. which harness?
Is it possible to retrofit the OBD connector or do you think that there are more complications than benefits?
Did all 964's have an OBD 1 port/connector?

Thanks in advance.

All 964's had the round OBD-1 connector, yes.

The OBD connector interfaces with the main harness in several places to be able to communicate with several ECU's and modules. For your Carrera, the only relevant ones would be the Motronic ECU which is incorporated into the 55-pin connector.

Thanks Steve,

So in theory it can be spliced into the main harness by the 55 pin ECU connector.

Do you think it would be worthwhile to enable the ability to read potential engine error messages or is it more trouble than it's worth?

I realise all other 964 error messages such as ABS etc would be irrelevant.
