Why is my fan on all the time?

Postby vtdriver » Wed Feb 20, 2013 3:32 pm

When I turn on the ignition the rear fan always comes on and stays on regardless of the control setting. It blows out through the defrost vent at a very low speed.
Is this normal? Any way to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

is your fan knob on the CCU turned on 2 or more?
IIRC, the rear fan mounted on the motor comes on at 2 or greater to force hot air in the heat exchangers
forward to the console.
In the front boot, you have two fans, one on either side left and right to blow into the car.
There is also another fan mounted on the underside of the CCU ( under the dash by the ashtray) that is always running.

Your rear fan should come on when the ignition is turned on, and after the engine is started, it will shut down, unless the dial on the CCU is set for heat, then it will keep running.
There are 2 fans behind the dash, they are the A/C fans and run all the time, so it is normal to have some air moving through the vents.
If your heater fan (engine bay fan ) runs all the time, with the dial set to cold, I would start with the relay for that fan which is located in the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment.
Hope this helps. :)
