Master Cyl. question(s)

Postby Charles Freeborn » Mon Feb 11, 2013 8:11 am

While the front suspension and steering rack are all out of my '74 it sure would be the time to go through the MC and either replace or re-build. Existing one I assume is original and is as far as I can see not leaking anywhere. Worked when I last drove the car.
So, is it worthwhile to re-build it or is it a replace item? If rebuild, can I do it myself, or does it require special tools.
Since it's not showing signs of leakage should I not worry about it and replace when it fails? All the rest of the brakes are fresh, including calipers restored.
Car has 130 +- miles.
Thanks!

Charles,

Master cylinders cannot be (and shouldn't be) rebuilt due to the unavailability of parts. :)

Typically, they fail internally and you will never see them leak.

I can send you a new one.

I pretty much figured that. I'll give you a call later this week when I can sneak away.No mad rush on my part.
Many thanks,
