Alternator needs rebuild, and congrats on the new forum

Postby Jsveb » Thu Jan 31, 2013 7:01 pm

Hi

Congratulations to Steve on the new forum.

I'll start out by asking for help...

I need to have the alternator for my 76 Carrera 3.0 rebuild. Wires are terrible brittle, and everything looks like is is from 75 (76 model)

I want to keep the ext style regulator and have heard good things about rebuilding instead of just buying new stuff. Also, I like to keep as much of the original parts of the car as possible.

Where do I find a shop for this task?

Regards

Jesper

Hi Jesper,

I don't blame you for wanting to retain the older mechanical voltage regulator since they were really quite durable. I have the same item on my own '74 for the same reason.

I would look around in your local ares to see if there is a shop that specializes in rebuilding alternators and starters. We have a very good local guy that I've used for 30+ years and their may be someone like that where you live.

Worst case, you can send it to me.

Thanks for the reply.

It is exactly a shop like that I have been looking for, no such luck yet.

What is the cost of having it done by your guy, approx.?
