77SC ROTOR OPTIONS 18" wheels 2.5 spacer

Postby ducs » Fri Sep 12, 2014 8:18 am

1977 911SC Widebody car running 18" turbo twist wheels with 2.5 spacers, wanted to replace the front rotors and have some questions. Is it possible to use 928s4 slotted/vented rotors, upgrade to the boxster rotors people seem to be having success with or just use the Zimmerman rotors? Also since I have 2.5 spacers and 18" wheels that have a huge offset can't I run a much larger rotor, leading to the real question does a larger rotor in itself lead to better braking? I'm also replacing the hoses with Goodyear SS lines.and will getting a larger booster as in later models help? tks drake

Hi,

I have some questions for you.

1) In the US, the SC wasn't sold until 1978 and these had 3.0 engines. Is your car a '77 chassis or a '78 chassis?

2) What calipers are you using? This is what determines what rotors will fit. :) :) :)

I'm still developing the history on the car, according to the vin it's number 31 made in 77 which would make it a 911S,the car is badged as an SC and the car was sent back to Germany and received the wide body treatment at the factory. Still trying to get all the details, S or SC, my quess is an S. In any regard the car has 2 pot calipers and i'm guessing S rotors, since the car is so wide and so much space in the wheel wells, i'm interested in upgrading the brakes. I've had 3 long nose cars,1 short nose-this car, and an 86 930 turbo,86 928S,88GTS etc. so i'm familiar with the marque. Never having owned a 77 model I'm quessing it runs pretty much the same braking system as an SC, perhaps a larger booster on the SC for brake bias as these were 3.0's and not the dreadful 2.7's. Was thinking that either the 930 rotors-4 pots or the GTS rotors might work well. Advice appreciated. tks Drake

Thanks Steve, the car is setup with turbo twist wheels 18" deep dish running 295's on the rear and 245-260's on the front, staggered and corner balanced, i'll have to check front sizes. There is a ton of room in the wheel wells as these have a big offset. Just looking for affordable options to improve the braking, just got the car so i'll check the rims/offset/spacer/pistons etc. and get back to you. Did the S and SC run the same piston/rotor combination? Is there any additional info you'd need?
A lot of this depends on my research about the car, it's vin indicates S, it's body- wide body sc/turbo,so I'm confused. Bought it for a song, as the body,wheels/tires, suspension upgrades and look were worth the price alone. I'll post some pictures if I can here. Any opinion appreciated.
Tks drake
