The washers came today and as I was cleaning the bolts it occurred to me that the shop I've used had to pull the engine to fix the major oil leak. While they commented on the noise from the rear, no one said anything about the locking plates missing! When do you plan to relocate to Colorado???

Ugh! I was torquing down the bolts, with the locking plates, new washers, and new gaskets in place and torque wrench set to 30 lbs, when another bolt snapped off at the head. I was going slow so it wasn't like I smashed it off. It was as clean a break as the first one. Is something wrong with the bolts? Stress fractures? POS?

I've seen my share of incorrectly heat treated bolts and a 12.9 is a hardened fastener.

If it were me, I'd get a new set from Porsche AND have your torque wrench checked & calibrated. You REALLY need to know how accurate it is across the whole range.

I got my torque wrenches back. My big one had to be recalibrated, but the one I was using here was spot on. I have all the bolts in place so let's see what happens when I torque them down today...
