Electrical tune up.

Postby Ktm380 » Fri Apr 05, 2013 12:43 pm

Hi Steve,
My engine runs rough under 2000 rpms especially after it rains. Im assuming I have some sort of electrical issue. This symptom persisted after changing the ignition wires cap and rotor. Are there
Particular items of the ignition system that may be susceptible to moister. Like the crank pickup? And what would be the best way to test. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Hi Tim,

Tell me something about your car: year, model, etc. :D

Also, tell me what brand cap, rotor & wires you used. Did you keep the same plugs?, If so, what are they?

With the "full picture", I may be able to offer something constructive for you.

Steve,
I think the plugs are Ngk Im not sure of the number. Do you have a plug recommendation? The plugs have about 10,000 miles on them. The engine has about 140,000

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the info!

All good stuff and it sounds like something isn't seated properly. Moisture (rain) creates conductive paths and if any of the plug wires, coil wire, or spark plug connectors aren't seated properly in the cap, coil, or on the plugs, you will have running problems.

I would recommend going back and carefully re-seat all of these connectors and then test by spraying the running engine with a mist of water from a spray bottle to see if it stumbles.

NGK's are good plugs,......BPR6EIX is a good one.

Don't forget low tension leads to the coil. That was the problem with mine once.
