Tire age and DE events

Do tech inspections have criteria for the age of tires? How open should they be replaced, assuming I don't drive enough miles to wear them out as God intended?

Tech inspectors rarely look at date codes on tires; they leave that important task to the driver. These good folks look at tread depth & whether the tires have any physical damage or not.

Any street tire more than 5 years old should be replaced, regardless of tread depth. Old tires become very hard and not only handle poorly, but are noisy, darty, and have little grip.

Ooops, my tires are 7 years old and look good but they are noisy. They seem to grip well too. They are Toyos. I see little winged dollar bills flying out the windows of my house. once more.
