3.2 Fuel Injectors?

Postby ClickClickBoom » Thu Feb 28, 2013 7:54 am

Hey,
I was wondering what he current wisdom on 3.2 fuel injectors might be. Anybody know an alternative to the OEM injector?
I am pretty sure that the Lucas replacements are not for me
Solutions?

Eric,

For the stock Motronic ECU, I use the OEM Bosch ones. Others are of dubious quality and you cannot use high-impedance ones. Further, the flow volumes & spray patterns are pretty critical. :)

Some people have used a BMW one, however I've never taken the time to research that.

(964 & 993 use high-impedance injectors)

Steve, I found a wealth of Bosch info on the Internet. 0280150158 is the stock part number, almost impossible to fing at less than gold standard prices.
After reviewing a spreadsheet ( http://www.nojac-competition.com/web/IMG/pdf/INJECT.pdf )compiled by someone who spent a lot of time putting it together, I winnowed out some interesting possibilities
After sorting through the HP side of the graph, I found these in the 028 150 XXX family
First:

G/Min. CC/Min. Ohms
028 150 158 Stock 179 229 2.4
028 150 165 Jag. 182 233 2.4
028 150 360 Ply. 186 238 2.4
028 150 364 Pont. 196 251 2.4

I got the 028150165 on eBay for $35.00 each, we will see how it goes, the 158, and 364 are unobtainum and the 360 is available at reasonable prices, but unless I am missing something big it seems like the 165 is the best fit. The only down side that I can imagine is the 165 is for a water cooled Jag, and the Porsche in this circumstance is aircooled.
Thoughts?
Eric

One of the big differences between injectors of the same capacity is spray pattern. This is done to accommodate each engine's intake system and injector position for proper & complete atomization.

There are three ways to measure the performance differences here: torque (thus BHP), AFR's, and BMSFC. The former is obvious and both types of injectors should be tested back-to-back. The latter is about fuel consumption and thus efficiency. One also needs to carefully measure AFR's in case the duty cycles need to be adjusted to compensate.

This is the way I'd go about finding out if such substitutions will be safe & transparent,... :)

Hey,
Installed the 028 150 165s today, took it for a spin, runs awesome! Idle is about 100 RPMs higher with no other changes other than the injector install. Got them on eBay for $35.00 each.
Happy, happy joy,joy!
