My recently acquired '05 997.1 C2S has a whine in second gear under hard accelaration between 2000 rpm and 3500 rpm. After 3500 the whine ceases. No whine in any other gears.
Changed trans oil with Porsche Factory Shell oil and the whine is still present.

Do I need a new second gear syncro??

How many miles on the car?

Did this noise start recently/suddenly?

46,000 miles on the car. I only had the car for a month. Noise didn't show up on the PPI. The reason I just noticed is I'm partially deaf and I alway drive with the window down. I put my hearing aids on for the first time driving the car with the windows up yesterday and I heard the whine. BTW the cars an S with Sport Chrono.


I don't always wear my hearing aids as I do relish the silence.
