Occasional Difficulty in selecting first gear

Hi all,

First post, looking for advice.
I have a 1995, 997 Carrera S gen 1 with 83,000 miles and it occasionally refuses to go into 1st gear. Only if I depress the clutch pedal or select 2nd gear will it accept 1st!
New clutch didn't make any difference and seems to be more prone when car is cold but can strike when warm!!

Any similar experiences or ideas? Someone mentioned gear linkage perhaps?

Cheers

Hi,

Naturally,.....one should always disengage the clutch whenever changing gears as that's a MUST.

Assuming that your '05 is a 997, I'd first suggest flushing & bleeding the clutch hydraulics since these systems are always overlooked when maintenance is due. I always replace the slave cylinder at every clutch job since these are usually internally corroded and they are a wear item.

If the clutch doesn't completely release when the pedal is pushed to the floor, the clutch drags and that makes for hard shifting. I would also inspect all of the shifter bushings since these degrade over time and make it more difficult to select gears.

Cheers
