996 & Boxster Performance Enhancements

The 996 and Boxster Porsches represent a whole new generation of sports cars from Stuttgart. These cars are Porsche's biggest efforts to make these new 911's handle benignly at the limit in the hands of less than perfect drivers. To that end, they seem to have succeeded very well. While there is always room for improvement, the 996 and Boxster can be driven very quickly without getting into trouble with an idiosyncratic-handling car such as its predecessors. These cars have entirely new suspension systems with greatly reduced bump-steer, roll-steer and adverse toe-change characteristics.

Rennsport Systems offers several suspension improvement packages for the 996-series and Boxsters as well as Performance Chips for these cars.

***** NEW! *****

Boxster adjustable swaybars are here

Adjustable swaybars for your Boxster are now available

These are available in 25mm 4-way adjustable front bar with a matching 20mm 3-way adjustable rear bar.

****************************

We have two basic suspension improvement packages to choose from.

Stage I: Lowering Springs & Bilstein Shocks (996 & Boxster)

This is a simple, but very effective change to H&R springs and Bilstein HD shocks. This will lower your 996 or Boxster about 1 inch. This firms the ride up without being uncomfortable and really makes the car feel much tighter in lane changes as well as being more stable when driven quickly. Plus, not only do these outlast the OEM shocks but US-sourced Bilsteins carry the Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Stage II: Coilovers: Bilstein PSS-9 or Moton ClubSport and GT-3 adjustable Swaybars

The next step up from a simple spring/shock replacement is the addition of a coilover kit and GT-3 adjustable swaybars. This setup permits total ride height adjujstment, corner-weight corrections, and the use of adjustable swaybars. This makes a significant improvement in control and handling by limiting longitudinal weight transfer and reducing body lean. Ride quality is still maintained and the streetability is not adversely affected. PSS-9's offer 9 adjustments of bump & rebound. The Moton Clubsport shocks are 7-way compression, 7-way rebound remote reservoir shocks and come with a custom dual-spring setup.

The GT-3 Swaybars are:

Front bar: 26.8mm, 5-way adjustable unit with adjustable droplinks and bushings

Rear bar: 20.7mm, 4-way adjustable with adjustable droplinks and bushings

These systems are custom designed for each car. We select the proper springs and shock valving to match the application.

996 and Boxster OBDII Chips

The performance of the new water-cooled, rear engined Porsches can now be improved with a chip replacement. The 4000 to 6000 RPM range is significantly enhanced and we have seen a 19 HP increase at 5800 RPM.

The DME can be found behind the rear passenger backrest where you see those bolt holes.

Here are some comment from clients that have our re-programmed DME's:

Nelson wrote: "Chip is mean. Spent a half hour before meeting my wife beating the piss
out of the car. It can FLY, it just winds out so fast, major torque"

Ben said: "It's pulling MUCH harder from 4500 and up"

Mark wrote: "The
power change is remarkable. I feel like it is a completely different car",............
"I could not be more pleased with the results.
Your chip is great. Please feel free to use me as a future reference for anyone who would like to get a first hand report of how well your chip works."

Boxster Chip Dyno Results

These were done on a Mustang Dyno which doesn't translate exactly with a Dynojet. The most important numbers to consider are the differences between the stock and modified ones.

The Boxster DME is found in the rear trunk on the left side of the firewall.

HP numbers are at the rear wheels. Nice power gain from 1700 RPM to 6600 RPM.

18+ HP maximum gain occurred at at 5900, and 8+ HP total gain at 6500.

******* Warranty Questions & Issues*******

One of the most frequent subjects that is brought up when talking about chipping a car are warranty concerns. Many people wish to know if installing a chip will void or affect the warranty. This is a very legitimate question and the last word on this will decided by the Manufacturer and Dealer.

Now,.......you have very specific rights granted by Federal Antitrust laws and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act that you must be aware of to keep from being "stonewalled" by a Dealer or Manufacturer.

Under Federal Antitrust Laws, the use of parts or accessories that were not purchased from and installed by the Dealer do not affect the vehicle's warranty. Manufacturer's and their authorized representatives, may not condition a warranty on the use of their own parts or service, unless the parts or service are provided free of charge. Also, they may not refuse to honor a warranty unless they can show that an aftermarket part or accessory is the cause of a particular malfunction otherwise covered by the warranty.

In other words, warranty coverage cannot be denied simply because such parts are present on the vehicle or have been used. The warranty coverage can be denied only if the aftermarket parts caused the malfunction or damage for which warranty coverage is sought. Normally, these issues boil down to facts and technical opinions, rather than interpretations of the law.

Any denials of warranty should be gotten in writing from the Dealer. The Dealer must describe both the failure and how they believe the aftermarket part is responsible.

SEMA's website has some useful information about this that can be found at http://www.sema.org/warranty/
